Silver Needle Tea

I. Name Origin: Silver Needle is named for its needle-shaped tea buds densely covered in silvery-white down. It holds poetic titles like "Beauty of Teas" and "King of Teas" for its elegance and premium status.

II. Production Regions: This tea originates from China's Fujian Province, with Fuding City and Zhenghe County as its core production areas. Significant cultivation also extends to Zherong, Songxi, and Jianyang.

III. Historical Background: Modern Silver Needle was pioneered in the Qing Dynasty: Fuding first crafted it in 1796 using local cultivar buds, switched to superior Fuding Dabai cultivar buds in 1885, and Zhenghe began production in 1889. It was ranked China’s second-finest tea in the 1982 national evaluation.

IV. Processing Technique: Harvesting follows strict "ten no-pick" principles (e.g., omitting rain-damp or damaged buds), selecting only plump unopened buds. Its unique process involves no frying or rolling—just natural withering and drying.

V. Quality Classification: Regional styles include North Road Silver Needle (Fuding: stout buds with thick down) and South Road Silver Needle (Zhenghe: slender buds with lighter fuzz). Official grades are Superior (prime buds, abundant down) and Grade One.

VI. Brewing Method: Use a glass cup or gaiwan with 85°C+ water. Glass showcases the buds’ "three rises and falls"; for gaiwan, steep 5g tea in 120ml water for 5-10 seconds initially. Drink when the liquor turns pale apricot-yellow with prominent downy aroma.

VII. Storage Method: Preserve in airtight, opaque containers (tin/tinplate cans recommended) within cool (≤25°C), dry, odor-free conditions. Strictly isolate from strong scents.
